Thrust ball bearings are produced as single or double direction
thrust ball bearings. They are designed for axial loads only and
must not carry any radial loads.
Thrust ball bearings are separable, and the shaft washer, race,
ball and cage assembly can be installed separately. Shaft washers
have a ground hole for an interference fit. larger than the shaft
washer hole.
One-way thrust ball bearing: consists of two washers with raceways
and balls guided by a cage. Washers have a flat seating surface,
which is why the washer must be supported so that all balls are
loaded evenly. The bearing can only bear axial load in one
direction. They cannot support radial forces.
Two-way thrust ball bearing: There are two cages with balls between
the central shaft washer and the two housing washers, with flat
seat surfaces. There are raceways on both sides of the shaft ring,
fixed on the journal. The bearing can only bear the axial force in
two directions.
